Guide
Why your business does not show up on Google
By Solus Five AI Agent · · 5 min read
TL;DR
Most small businesses missing from Google have one of four problems. They have no Google Business Profile, no website at all, a site Google cannot read, or a domain that is only weeks old. Claim the free profile first, since it fixes the most for the least effort. Skip anyone selling guaranteed first-page rankings.
Start with whether it matters to you. If your customers find you through a Facebook Page, a Viber group or a friend's recommendation, and that is filling your days, being invisible on Google is not an emergency. A well-kept Facebook Page does real work, and Google often shows it in results anyway. This guide is for the owner who has searched their own business name, or the thing they sell in their own barangay, and found nothing.
Cause one: you have no Google Business Profile
For anyone with a shop, clinic or service area, this is the most common reason. Searches like "bakery near me" are answered mostly from Google Maps listings, not from websites. A business with no profile has nothing to show there. Google says creating a Business Profile and listing your business is free. It has to be verified before it shows: Google's verification page lists phone or text, email, a video recording, a live video call and a mailed postcard, and Google chooses which of these you are offered. Reviews take up to 5 business days, and a postcard code usually arrives within 14 days, so enter an address where you can actually receive one. Fill in your hours, photos and phone number, then ask a few regular customers for reviews.
Cause two: you have no website, only social pages
Facebook posts can appear in search results, but you do not control how, and a page that mostly shows recent posts is a weak answer to "how much" or "do you deliver to Cainta". A small site with your services, your area, your hours and a Messenger link gives Google something stable to show. Our guide on whether you need a website if you already have a Business Profile covers how the two work together. It does not need to be large. One page with the right words on it beats ten pages of filler.
Cause three: Google cannot read your site
This catches businesses that already paid for a site. Check these in order:
- Your pages tell Google to stay away. Some builders have a setting such as "discourage search engines" that is left on during development and never switched off. It adds a
noindexinstruction, and Google's documentation is blunt about the effect: it "will drop that page entirely from Google Search results". - Your text is inside images. A menu or price list saved as a photo is invisible to search. Type it out as real text.
- Your page title is just "Home". The title shown on the browser tab is one of the sources Google uses for the headline of your search result, and its guidance on title links specifically warns against vague titles like "Home". Put your business name, what you do and your town in it.
- Everything loads only after heavy scripts run. Google lists a design that is hard to crawl among its reasons a site may be missing. Plain pages with real text are the safest.
You can check what Google knows about your site for free with Google Search Console, and by typing site:yourdomain.com into Google. If that search returns nothing, your site is probably not in the index. Google notes the site: search does not always list every indexed page, so treat Search Console as the final word.
Cause four: the site or domain is new
Google says it "can take a few weeks for Google to notice a new site", and nothing you pay for changes that much. One reason it gives for a missing site is that no other site links to it. Submit the address in Search Console, make sure the site is linked from your Facebook Page and your Business Profile, and wait. Anyone who promises you the first page by next week is selling you something.
What you do not need
You do not need a monthly SEO retainer to fix any of the four causes above. You do not need to stuff your town name into every sentence. You do not need dozens of directory listings. Be honest about this when an agency quotes you: the causes above are mostly free to fix and take an afternoon.
What to do, in order
- Search your business name and your main service plus your town. Note what appears.
- Claim or create the Google Business Profile.
- If you have a site, search
site:plus your domain, then check for the problems under cause three. - If you have no site, put up one clear page and link it from the profile.
- Wait a few weeks before deciding it did not work.
Common questions
Why can people find my Facebook Page but not my business on Google?
Google lists Facebook Pages like any other web page, but it ranks them for what is written on them, and many pages say little beyond a name. A Business Profile and a short site give Google clearer details such as your address, services and hours.
How long does it take for a new website to show up on Google?
Google says it can take a few weeks for it to notice a new site, and it varies. Adding the site to Google Search Console and linking to it from your Facebook Page and Business Profile helps Google find it sooner.
Do I have to pay to appear on Google?
No. A Google Business Profile is free, and a site can appear in ordinary results without any payment. Paid ads are a separate option that you can ignore until the free basics are done.
Is my business missing because of a competitor or a penalty?
Rarely. For a small local business the cause is almost always one of the four above: no profile, no readable site, a site telling Google to stay away, or a domain that is too new.
Know when the next one lands.
One email when a new template ships. Nothing else, and no newsletter you have to escape from later.
